Langevin-Type Models I: Diffusions with Given Stationary Distributions and their Discretizations*

چکیده
We describe algorithms for estimating a given measure p known up to a constant of proportionality, based on a large class of diffusions (extending the Langevin model) for which p is invariant. We show that under weak conditions one can choose from this class in such a way that the diffusions converge at exponential rate to p, and one can even ensure that convergence is independent of the starting point of the algorithm. When convergence is less than exponential we show that it is often polynomial at veri®able rates. We then consider methods of discretizing the diffusion in time, and ®nd methods which inherit the convergence rates of the continuous time process. These contrast with the behavior of the naive or Euler discretization, which can behave badly even in simple cases. Our results are described in detail in one dimension only, although extensions to higher dimensions are also brie ̄y described.

Langevin diffusions on the torus: estimation and applications
We introduce stochastic models for continuous-time evolution of angles and develop their estimation. We focus on studying Langevin diffusions with stationary distributions equal to wellknown distributions from directional statistics, since such diffusions can be regarded as toroidal analogues of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. Their likelihood function is a product of transition densities with ...
متن کاملOptimal Scaling of the Mala Algorithm with Irreversible Proposals for Gaussian Targets
Abstract. It is known that reversible Langevin diffusions in confining potentials converge to equilibrium exponentially fast. Adding a divergence free component to the drift of a Langevin diffusion accelerates its convergence to stationarity. However such a stochastic differential equation (SDE) is no longer reversible. In this paper, we analyze the optimal scaling of MCMC algorithms constructe...
متن کاملThe Pearson diffusions: A class of statistically tractable diffusion processes
The Pearson diffusions is a flexible class of diffusions defined by having linear drift and quadratic squared diffusion coefficient. It is demonstrated that for this class explicit statistical inference is feasible. Explicit optimal martingale estimating functions are found, and the corresponding estimators are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal. The discussion covers GMM, quasi-l...
متن کاملTempered Langevin diffusions and algorithms
We consider a class of Langevin diffusions with state-dependent volatility. The volatility of the diffusion is chosen so as to make the stationary distribution of the diffusion with respect to its natural clock, a heated version of the stationary density of interest. The motivation behind this construction is the desire to construct uniformly ergodic diffusions with required stationary densitie...
متن کاملDiffusion-type Models with given Marginal Distribution and Autocorrelation Function
Flexible stationary diffusion-type models are developed that can fit both the marginal distribution and the correlation structure found in many time series from e.g. finance and turbulence. Diffusion models with linear drift and a known and prespecified marginal distribution are studied, and the diffusion coefficients corresponding a large number of common probability distributions are found ex...
